When I accidentally stabbed myself with a pencil
Right in the meaty bit between my thumb and forefinger
Because I turned over the pencil to use the eraser
But I fumbled the maneuver
And I watched as blood collected in a tidy pool
In the palm of my hand
I got permission to walk to the nurses office
But halfway there this girl saw my t-shirt
With a picture of Lestat from Interview with the Vampire
That said “Drink from me and live forever”
And this girl mocked it, she said
“So if I drink from you will I live forever?”
And I just looked away and kept walking
But sometimes I still think about
What I should have done
Because what I should have done was
I should have shown her what was in my hand
And looked her straight in the eye
Brought my cupped hand up to my lips
And drank it
